You ever have a "rebellious" day? Not gonna follow the rules, the fashion police are at your heels? The kindergarten teachers around the world are falling outta their chairs cause you are drinking a soda in the classroom? eh ok so What does God think about following rules? His rules are a reflection of how this world was created to be. Our rules are binding tethers that try to shape us into something acceptable by society :/ You have to be "good" always in all ways!
Colossians 1 28-29. 28We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. 29To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.
In fact, being good may be our worst enemy. It was for the Pharisees! Their external goodness was a cover-up used to avoid facing what they were on the inside. Jesus did not approve of their external religiosity! In fact, he opposed it vehemently.
It can bring a great sense of freedom to realize that God isn't into rules, but rather relationships. And his goal isn't to make us good, but to make us whole; that is, to heal us from the inside out. The end result will be goodness but goodness that comes from a healed heart, and not from adhering to external rules Now dont get me wrong. There are the "big 10" the ten commandments(see that word?) they show the very nature of God. Those are rules that should become our nature when we have the Holy Spirit in us. If you are still having trouble following those rules then you and God need some serious face time. Rules that I am refering to are those "society" rules. Church people are nice and quiet, they dont get mad. They dont look like ... we like me sometimes :) The rules of the American dream. IF you follow Jesus you will have a happy healthy home ... you will prosper financially. O I cant stand those rules.
Man! Do we ever get caught up in rules ... or labels! Dont let that happen if it distances you from the LORD!
